Enjoy the evening with APEX in the beautiful outdoor courtyard at the Bowers Museum to hear from Asian American professionals in the visual arts. They will discuss their current projects and how they came to be in the arts. Complimentary hor d'oeuvres will be served as you mingle with other young professionals and like-minded individuals.

Artist and Animator

Vinh Chung is a 3D Artist and Animator working primarily in the Advertising and Visual Effects Industries. He graduated from the Digital Media Department at Otis College of Art and Design with a B.F.A and a love for Design and Animation. Since graduating he has worked at numerous commercial and visual effects animation studios including Warner Brothers Animation, Brand New School, The Director's Bureau, Transistor Studios, Stardust, Blind, and Imaginary Forces. Vinh has been involved with notable projects that include clients as Target, the NFL Network, Lifesavers, Microsoft, Starbucks, and Cartoon Network. His most recent project has been a short animation "The Veiled Commodity" which he co-wrote/directed—it has been featured extensively at many national and international film festivals, including the Los Angeles United Film Festival, Asian American International Film Festival, San Francisco Frozen Film Festival, and The Rincon Film Festival, where it won a Director’s Choice Award.

Oliver Lin
Chinese Calligraphy, Seal Inscription and Ceramic Artist
South Coast Chinese Culture Association and Culture Center, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Orange County


 

Oliver Lin is a Chinese Calligraphy, Seal Inscription and Ceramic Artist that currently teaches Calligraphy at the South Coast Chinese Culture Association & Culture Center as well as the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Orange County.  Graduating from the National Taiwan University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and attending CSULA for his Graduate studies in Engineering,Oliver's past projects include the earth dam in Taiwan & Cam Ranh Bay Airfield in Vietnam as well as various projects for Ralph M. Parsons Co., E.L. Pearson & Associates & R.T. Quinn & Associates in Los Angeles.  His art work has been displayed at the Chinese Culture Center of Los Angeles and the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taiwan.

YaYa Chou
Artist, Painter and Sculptor

Born and raised in Taiwan, YaYa Chou moved to Los Angeles in 1997 to study Experimental Animation. Being inspired by scene and set design for clay animation, the award-winning filmmaker turned her interests to sculpture and installation. Without formal training in the visual art, Chou remains a self-taught mixed-media artist.

YaYa Chou’s works combine humor and commentary on modern lifestyles; they are inspired by language, social phenomenon and melody, stemmed from consumption, theory, and words. Mostly she investigates the assumption of what is natural and what is unnatural.

Chou has showed her works in galleries and museums around the country, as well as numerous international film festivals, including Museum of Modern Art , New York and Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Virginia . She is currently showing with galleries in Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Taipei, Taiwan. Her works are featured in Fiberarts magazine, books and newspapers in the U.S. and Taiwan.
